Gnote: Tomboy but faster…

I have been a fan of tomboy since i used GNOME for the first time, its a handy tool for quick notes such as saving something while you are on the phone or day to day task listing. Problem with tomboy is its a ‘little’ greedy on resources. Lucky us, someone wrote a non-mono/gtk tomboy alternate called gnote. I have shifted to gnote since i came to know about it. netspeed:Network speed applet

At times i like to check how much upload and download am i consuming, ofcourse there are great tools for that but i am too lazy to press any key. I need a tool that would sit in my gnome panels. Such an applet is netspeed
You can install it by:
apt-get install netspeed
and then add it to panel like any other application e.g. right click on panel, click Add to Panel, scroll down and select netspeed.
Envyng: Easy Nvidia/ATI Driver management

We have systems with nvidia cards at our office. Installing nvidia drivers was always troublesome, actually not installing, finding the correct version. A friend of mine told me about envyng, which is a great tool to manage nVidia/ATI graphics drivers. It has separate components for gtk and qt. For some reason i never could get it working on gtk, had to use commandline always, but on qt e.g. KDE it looks great. (more…)
Gnome Do: Do it faster than before

I spend my day on laptop and thus hate to take my hands off keyboard for mouse or touchpad. I like launching and using programs from keyboard all the time. So i found Gnome Do which is a great tool, a lot of plugins to integrate into commonly used programs such as firefox, pidgin, evolution to increase productivity. There is also something like this in KDE, i think its called katapult. (more…)
